Siemens is industry leader in the technology needed to implement energy-efficient, low-loss transport of electrical power across vast distances – high-voltage direct-current transmission (HVDC). Great Britain and the Netherlands are already trading and transmitting their electricity using Siemens engineering, while France and Spain are going to be linked by Siemens HVDC systems, and many of Germany's offshore wind farms will transport their power to shore via Siemens-built transmission lines. Siemens is currently connecting the popular vacation island Majorca to Spain's mainland power grid with an energy highway. Within a press trip to Mallorca Siemens Energy presented this project and showed the growth-market potential of HVDC technology.
