Automation made easy with AI-assisted engineering

In a proof of concept at CASMT, Eigen Engineering Agent takes care of the nitty-gritty of automation engineering, freeing up engineers to consider the bigger picture.

China is leading the world in e-mobility, driven by companies like CASMT, a provider of intelligent automation for the electric vehicle industry. In this business, speed is the name of the game, because auto manufacturers want solutions that can move from design to production in months rather than years – without compromising quality, reliability or safety.

These compressed timelines put automation engineers under immense pressure: they have to get their designs right the first time while working across multidisciplinary systems including mechanics, electronics, software, robotics and quality inspection. We’re able to alleviate that pressure with our Eigen Engineering Agent. This AI-powered assistant operates through natural-language prompts: engineers describe what they want to achieve and Eigen Engineering Agent handles repetitive engineering tasks in the background. The solution is seamlessly connected to TIA Portal - our central engineering environment. It supports PLC engineering, HMI screen design, SINAMICS drive configuration, hardware setup and automated test generation - enabling engineers to work across multiple domains without switching tools. TIA Portal also includes the SIMATIC Robot Library for comprehensive robotics engineering capabilities

Test drive with the electromechanical braking (EMB) demo machine

In collaboration with our engineers, CASMT built a compact proof of concept based on a design with Eigen Engineering Agent: a scaled-down version of a full electromechanical braking production line. It condenses the functionality of 30 to 50 workstations into a single demonstrator, yet still covers the full breadth of an industrial production line, including assembly, part handling, screwing and torquing and robotic operations. The team designed and built the first version of the EMB demo in under two months, then refined it through a few weeks of subsequent redesigns.

Quality assurance is also part of the EMB demo machine with Inspekto, our AI-powered visual inspection system designed specifically for industrial environments. Setting up Inspekto is very straightforward: in a relatively short time and with as few as 20 good parts, it’s ready to go – no machine-vision or AI expertise required. Inspekto detects scratches, surface defects, foreign objects and missing components – even on difficult-to-inspect shiny parts thanks to its unique anti-reflection technology.

Inspekto doesn’t need to be engineered. Instead, it can be setup quickly and then put to work inspecting parts.

Empowering automation engineers

Yes, the Eigen Engineering Agent makes it possible to develop production systems at record speed. However, it does not replace automation engineers; they remain fully responsible for validation and optimization, ensuring that every system meets requirements for quality, reliability and safety. By taking over repetitive and time‑consuming engineering tasks, the agent allows specialists to focus on what cannot be automated: customization, fine‑tuning and debugging complex production lines.

For CASMT, the EMB demo machine marks just the beginning. Built on the same platforms used in customer projects, it turns agent‑based engineering from a concept into a scalable approach for real production systems.

When you have a tool like Eigen Engineering Agent that can reduce redundancy and repetitive work, engineers can focus on what is most important – making the system as good as possible.
