The MindSphere Innovation Network (MINe) aims to connect estate and research assets from Universities throughout the UK and across the globe, into our innovative Internet of Things platform (IoT); MindSphere.
MindSphere is the open, cloud-based IoT operating system from Siemens that connects machines and physical infrastructure to the digital world. It harnesses big data from billions of intelligent devices, enabling transformational insights across entire entities.
Learn how Siemens' cloud-based, open operating systems help you make data actionable and tranform it into measurable business success.
MINe at Newcastle University
On 14 May 2018, Newcastle University officially launched the exclusive MindSphere Lab at their flagship Urban Sciences Building. The Lab showcases the huge impact of digitalisation on industry and will provide users with access to Siemens’ open cloud-based platform, MindSphere. Together with customers, SMEs and academic partners, the team will seek to uncover new business models and create new opportunities that were previously thought to be impossible.
The Urban Sciences Building is also home to the Siemens MindSphere Application Centre (MAC) for Connected Batteries which is part of a global network of innovation hubs. The MAC supports the drive of digital service offerings and, by working with customers, aims to solve real problems that bring about real value for the end user.
The building also features a Siemens Building Management System and hosts the Computer Sciences Department in collaboration with Siemens Mobility Division.
MINe at University of Sheffield
On 21 September 2017, the University of Sheffield became the first to join MINe, with the opening of the MindSphere Lounge within their iconic Diamond Building. Not only a physical focal point for students, local businesses and other digital partners to collaborate, the lounge will represent a ‘living lab’. Through the network, the university will link estate and research assets to support the academic curriculum and R&D, allowing students to meet, think and discover using the power of MindSphere in the areas of manufacturing, water and energy.
Find out more about how the University is accelerating digitalisation, technology and knowledge exchange though the development of the MindSphere Lounge:
Using digital technologies to transform business operations is key for the UK to upscale competitiveness, improve national productivity and take advantage of the commercial opportunities offered by an increasingly digitalised industry. The launch of MINe, starting in Sheffield, represents a new era by allowing universities to translate their research into real world impact by harnessing the power of digitalisation.
