Designcenter "NX" CAD software is renamed to "Designcenter" in June 2026, applicable to both the on-premises and SaaS solutions. Cloud-SaaS Designcenter X NX solutions are renamed to Designcenter X solutions. On-premises Designcenter NX solutions are renamed to Designcenter solutions.
NX CAD software, NX Design and NX for Design were legacy names referring to the product engineering and computer-aided design software now known as Designcenter. The "NX" naming for Designcenter products, including cloud-SaaS Designcenter X solutions and on-premises Designcenter solutions, was retired with the June 2026 release of Designcenter CAD software.
Designcenter CAD software was first available in 1975 as "Unigraphics". In 2002, Electronics Data Systems merged UGS' Unigraphics and SDRC's I-DEAS CAD software into a consolidated product called "NX". In 2007, Siemens AG acquired Unigraphics Solutions (formerly UGS) and the software became colloquially known as "Siemens NX" with CAD or CAM differentiators for the two different design and manufacturing software.
In 2019, Siemens PLM Software introduced Continuous Release for NX software, with new updates every 6 months. In June 2022, release names for NX software were based upon this Continuous Release model, with years and months for the release version. For example, the first version following this naming system is NX 2206 which was released in June of 2022.
In January 2025, Siemens Digital Industries Software's NX became known as "Designcenter NX", with the introduction of the Designcenter product design and engineering suite, including Designcenter NX and Designcenter Solid Edge.
In June 2026, Designcenter NX was renamed to "Designcenter". Designcenter releases continue to follow the Continuous Release naming structure, with the first release of Designcenter introduced in June 2026, or Designcenter 2606.
