How does Siemens Industrial Asset Hub discover and identify devices?
Siemens IAH enables users to discover all OT devices that can be reached from a gateway device in an on-site installation. Discovery is independent of device type and vendor, and the Siemens IAH service reports status and inventory information through a stable API and cloud-based web UI. After discovery, devices are identified via Asset Links with details like vendor, device type (PLC, HMI, router), order number, serial number, MAC addresses and firmware/hardware versions.
How does Siemens Industrial Asset Hub integrate with existing IT systems?
Siemens IAH creates a centralized inventory list that is accessible via the software’s web dashboard or integrated seamlessly into IT asset management or other systems using documented APIs. This supports access to transparent device inventory, state information and firmware data — anytime, anywhere.
What are the core technical building blocks of Siemens Industrial Asset Hub?
Siemens IAH consists of three focal components:
- A centrally hosted cloud-service (SaaS, also referred to as “backend service”) that encompasses and exposes all capabilities. These capabilities can be reached via a web-based UI application and well-documented, accessible APIs.
- Gateway software (also referred to as Asset Gateway) hosted on premise to route information and servicing functions to the backend service. The communication between the Asset Gateway and backend service is established with firewall-friendly protocols.
- A selection of Asset Links (also referred to as “ALs”), which act as middleware, between the Asset Gateway and the field devices.
The Asset Gateway and Links can be hosted on Industrial Edge devices, SCALANCE LPE devices or as container deployments.
