Safer, smarter rail transport in Victoria

The Warrnambool rail line is setting a new benchmark for Australian rail transportation by embracing digital transformation. Together with DT Infrastructure, our Accredited Network Integration Partner, we implemented key industrial communication technology and infrastructure upgrades between Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool stations in the state of Victoria. The result is boosted train frequency, enhanced safety and increased efficiency.

Victoria’s busiest regional rail line

The Warrnambool region, a key tourist hub in Victoria, is home to a population of over 25,000 Australians and popular tourist destinations such as the Great Ocean Road. The rail line is a vital link between Warrnambool and Melbourne – one that residents depend on every day. The upgrade project, a collaboration with DT Infrastructure, delivered 200 kilometers of new rail systems components. Our equipment plays a pivotal role in providing reliable communications for the train signaling and control network.

At the heart of the Warrnambool line upgrade project is over 200 RUGGEDCOM devices. These network devices integrate and unify the entire signaling and train control network. They link with over 200 Siemens Clearguard axle counting systems, creating a seamless flow of information. This is harmonious integration of technology at its finest.

The upgrade project increases transport capacity, enhances rail efficiency and improves passenger safety. Additionally, the upgrade future-proofs the rail line to accommodate for the next generation of trains.
