Cybersecurity is one of the most important topics for the future – for companies and society. It is the key prerequisite for organizations to safeguard critical infrastructure, protect sensitive information and assure business continuity. The digital transformation as one of Siemens’ strategic goals will only succeed if we can rely on the security of data and connected systems. Cybersecurity has not only a tremendous impact on our customers but is also required by many international and national laws and regulations. This makes cybersecurity a top priority for Siemens.

Cybersecurity Management

High Level Responsibilities

Cybersecurity is a top priority for Siemens. To address the challenges, the Managing Board of Siemens has decided to establish central governance for Cybersecurity and allocate the governance function to cybersecurity (CYS).
Given the importance of cybersecurity for senior management, the Siemens Global Chief Cybersecurity Officer reports directly to the responsible member of the Managing Board, quarterly to the entire Managing Board, and annually to the Supervisory Board. The CSB is responsible for the Siemens wide Cybersecurity Strategy as well as for the implementation and coordination of Cybersecurity throughout the Siemens organization. The Cybersecurity Strategy is aligned with the Siemens overall strategy and always kept up to date.

The respective member of the Managing Board, currently Cedrik Neike, is a permanent member of the Cybersecurity Board which is chaired by the Global Chief Cybersecurity Officer. The goal is to effectively manage the company’s overall cybersecurity approach. The business units are represented on the board by their Chief Cybersecurity Officers. The board provides a collaborative platform for advancing strategic initiatives throughout Siemens and its affiliated companies in order to address security issues and establish cybersecurity requirements and recommendations.

The Corporate Cybersecurity department, the Cybersecurity departments in businesses and countries work and collaborate closely in order to be trusted partners in the digital world for our society, our customers, and Siemens businesses themselves. About 1,300 cybersecurity experts all over the company develop and adopt leading technologies, leverage an internal network, and maintain a dialog with other companies. We want to continuously improve resilience through clear, holistic accountability and ownership. We rely on a culture of ownership for all aspects of cybersecurity. All of this gives Siemens a very broad foundation for protecting itself, its customers, and society at large.

  • Cedrik Neike is Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO Digital Industries and has spearheaded several cybersecurity initiatives. Notably, he has overseen the incorporation of advanced cybersecurity features into products, solutions, and services, ensuring 'Security by default' is a foundational element. He has held various senior executive positions at both Siemens and Cisco, drawing upon the operational expertise gained in the earlier stages of his professional journey. For instance, during his three-year tenure as Director of Engineering and Systems Development at Cisco, he led engineering teams in the creation of cross-functional systems and solutions, including Information Security features.

  • Natalia Oropeza is Global Chief Cybersecurity Officer of Siemens and has three decades of experience in information security and Cybersecurity. In her current and previous senior management positions, e.g., Vice President IT Mexico at T-Systems or Chief Information Security Officer at Volkswagen, etc., it is her responsibilities span safeguarding infrastructure, products, solutions, and services, while also facilitating cybersecurity services for Siemens customers. Furthermore, she is serving as the Chairwoman of the Charter of Trust, where she significantly contributes to global initiatives promoting cybersecurity and digital trust

  • Rainer Zahner is Head of Siemens Cybersecurity Governance and Risk Management Department and drives the Cybersecurity Enterprise Architecture. He is striving for providing services to enable the Siemens Businesses to adequately protect Siemens’ information assets, IT/OT infrastructure and Products & Services. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in IT, project management and consulting. During his tenure at Siemens, he served in various roles, including Head of IT Service and Key Account Manager for Energy Service Fossil, Chief Information Security Officer, and Chief Product and Solution Security Officer.
