AI-enabled HVAC optimization at Danske Shoppingcentre

Danske Shoppingcentre is working with Siemens to improve energy efficiency and building performance. AI-based optimization uses real-time data to adapt heating, ventilation and air conditioning. At Glostrup Shopping Center, results to date indicate heating cost savings of up to 30%.

Danske Shoppingcentre (DSC) had already established a strong digital foundation across its portfolio with Siemens building technology, including Desigo CC. The next step was to turn that foundation into more autonomous, continuously optimized operations.

Starting with Glostrup Shopping Center, Siemens introduced Building X, Siemens’ cloud-based digital building platform, to build on existing Desigo and Remote Services capabilities. Heating and ventilation can now adapt automatically to changing conditions, optimizing performance continuously while keeping people in control. The pilot lays the foundation for scaling this approach across DSC’s wider portfolio.

30% Lower heating costs indicated

Results to date at Glostrup Shopping Center indicate heating cost savings of up to 30% compared with the baseline year.

12% Lower overall energy costs

Building X helped reduce the shopping center’s total energy bill by 12%, including a 5% reduction in electricity use.

16 Shopping centers across the portfolio

Kolding Storcenter will be the next to implement the solution, with DSC aiming to extend the approach to more centers across its portfolio.

We are now seeing that the technology and expertise are in place to make our building data work for us. With autonomous AI control of heating and electricity consumption, combined with Siemens’ expert support, we see measurable savings from day one. With the experience we have gained in this process, we are now ready to explore where else this AI solution can help us achieve further reductions in energy consumption across our portfolio.

One integrated solution

Siemens’ end-to-end solution builds on DSC’s existing Desigo CC foundation, bringing together its cross-domain expertise in one AI-enabled, scalable approach. Building X's vendor-agnostic architecture also means it can integrate with the third-party systems already operating most of DSC's facilities, unifying all four BMS systems under one platform.

Efficient operations

Through Building X Operations Manager, DSC has a connected view of building performance, with every site monitored in real time, all in one place. Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) highlights abnormal behavior and helps pinpoint likely root causes, giving facility teams the insights they need to fix issues faster and cut wasted energy.

Digital services, backed by human insight

Siemens combines Building X’s AI-driven analytics with expert support to help DSC maximize building performance. Building X identifies opportunities for improvement, while Siemens experts turn these insights into measurable results through ongoing guidance and validation. Together, this blend of technology and human expertise delivers sustained operational, energy, and sustainability benefits for DSC.

Autonomous heating and cooling for lower energy use

At Glostrup, AI-enabled autonomous heating controls developed with Myrspoven automatically adjust heating to changing building conditions, contributing to 30% lower heating costs. Humans still stay in the loop, with Siemens engineers providing dedicated service hours to help DSC interpret results and fine-tune performance. For DSC, that means less manual intervention while keeping conditions comfortable and moving toward more autonomous HVAC operations.

Advancing autonomous, AI-driven operations

Building on the results at Glostrup, DSC is extending Building X and digital services support to Kolding, exploring the potential for broader application across its portfolio. This marks a positive step toward more autonomous, AI-driven building operations.

The results show that existing buildings can achieve significant energy savings without major physical investments. When data is used actively, buildings can, to a much greater extent, manage themselves.
