Project IBC Chur

Future-ready grids with real-time monitoring

Energy transitions demand digital transformation. With more Distributed Energy Resources, higher loads, and stability needs, IBC Chur uses secure, data-driven Siemens technology for full grid transparency – future-proofing the low-voltage grid and ensuring reliable power for 40,000 people.

Driven by data

Transparency and grid capacity

IBC Energie Wasser Chur transformed its grid with smart fuses, sensors, and Siemens Electrification X, enabling 24/7 transparency, faster fault detection, and easy integration, creating a scalable foundation for a more reliable and future-ready energy network.

Powered by data: Availability and reliability for Chur’s low-voltage grid

Making grids smart doesn’t have to be expensive. IBC combines easy-to-integrate hardware and software. Over the next two years, transformer stations and distribution cabinets will be equipped with SENTRON 3NA6 COM NH fuses and SICAM EGS sensors. The Electrification X loT Suite turns secure grid data into KPI-based insights, enabling early peak-load detection, targeted countermeasures, and efficient investment planning.
Continuous monitoring and automated alarms boost reliability, reduce downtime, and improve maintenance efficiency for a reliable, future-ready, and cybersecure power supply.

A smart grid has nothing to hide

By 2040, the city of Chur in Switzerland aims to be climate-neutral. Today, around 88 percent of its electricity already comes from renewable sources. To tackle the remaining 12 percent, the local utility IBC Energie Wasser Chur relies on smart fuses, grid sensors and Electrification X to create full grid transparency and move the city one decisive step closer to its climate goal.
