Carbon Reduction @ Suppliers program

We consider climate change not just as a global trend. We underline the need for business to lead by example and contribute to decarbonizing the economy.

Our commitment to the program

We are committed to achieving a 20% CO₂e reduction by 2030 and a net-zero supply chain by 2050. To lead by example, we recognize that collaboration with our suppliers is essential. We focus on close collaboration and engagement with you. With joint forces, we approach this with our Carbon Reduction @ Suppliers program (CR@S). This is our comprehensive approach to support you in your target setting and action plans for reducing your carbon footprints.

Decarbonization tips and solutions

Whether you are starting out or already experienced with implementing decarbonization measures, exploring best decarbonization practices provides valuable insights for everyone.

Decarbonization partnership with ctrl+s

We collaborate with an external partner, ctrl+s. ctrl+s hosts the external carbon management platform supplier+s. The Siemens Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Procurement community invites selected suppliers to complete the carbon web assessment (CWA) on supplier+s. The CWA enables you to learn about your own carbon emissions and document the implementation of reduction measures. By completing the different chapters of the self-assessment, you share your decarbonization plans with us, providing the basis for collaborating towards a net-zero supply chain.

Carbon accounting provides the basis for truly understanding and measuring a company’s overall footprint. To get to know their own carbon footprint, nominated Siemens´ suppliers can conduct their carbon emissions accounting in the carbon accounting module in supplier+s.

To further manage their carbon emissions, you can invite your suppliers to join you on your decarbonization journey on supplier+s. This helps you to identify your most relevant suppliers and their share of emissions.

The carbon management platform supplier+s

Basis for achieving carbon reduction is collaboration and data transparency

Supplier+s is a carbon management platform designed to help you measure and reduce your carbon footprint within the supply chain. It focuses on practical solutions for emissions reduction by asking specific questions about reduction activities in form of the carbon web assessment (CWA). The platform provides instant feedback, e-learning materials, and ensures data security. Further functionalities, such as carbon accounting and the possibility for you to invite your suppliers, will be activated after the submission of the CWA.

Carbon web assessment

Assess your decarbonization efforts

The carbon web assessment (CWA) is an online self-assessment for suppliers, available in the platform supplier+s. The CWA contains up to 19 questions on current and planned decarbonization efforts. It consists of two sections, namely “Company questions” and “Business segments”. Under the section "Company questions" you should provide answers on your corporate targets, footprints and achieved reductions. Under the section "Business segments" you are asked about your specific processes, products and services (e.g., used metals, basic chemicals, transport equipment).

Benchmark your industry peers

You receive a performance evaluation incl. KPIs about the performance today, in one year, in three years and the current transparency level. In this evaluation, your answers are compared with the industry baseline and the system subsequently calculates by how much better you perform compared to the industry average.

Carbon accounting

Tracking your CO₂e emissions

Carbon accounting involves measuring, tracking, and reporting an organization’s carbon emissions. This process helps you gain a comprehensive view of your carbon footprint, including emissions across different scopes, supply chain inputs, and your own suppliers. As part of the Carbon Reduction @ Suppliers program, the carbon accounting module allows you to prioritize your decarbonization efforts. We encourage our nominated suppliers to use this voluntary module in supplier+s, which helps you identify emission hotspots and areas for improvement. To further manage your carbon emissions, you can invite your own suppliers to join them on their decarbonization journey via supplier+s. This collaboration helps identify the most relevant suppliers and their share of emissions, without needing to disclose detailed supply chain information.
