To achieve a successful energy transition, we urgently need both energy parks that generate energy from renewable resources and high-performance energy storage systems for grid stabilization. The installation of electricity, heat and hydrogen storage systems ensures security of supply in the event of a power failure and makes it possible to avoid costly production losses and damage to installations. Even with highly volatile energy prices, installations can be operated cost-effectively. Furthermore, storage systems can be used to generate revenue on the energy market by using different markets such as Day-Ahead, Intraday or Balancing Energy.

Successfully managing a diverse generation landscape

The number of decentralized producers, players in the energy markets and electric vehicles continues to increase. With IT-supported diagnostics, intelligent processes and smart assets, e.g. for intelligent substations, grids can be kept stable through automated adaptive processes despite significantly higher fluctuations in generation and loads.

Creating a high-performance charging infrastructure

Electromobility makes a crucial contribution to the reduction of emissions and to the design of future-oriented transport concepts, especially in urban areas. Stadtwerke Stuttgart operates a high-performance charging infrastructure. The use of intelligent control technology, optimizations of the secondary distribution level and the targeted integration of vehicles as mobile storage systems (vehicle2grid) make it possible to overcome the challenges and also open up a range of new opportunities for value creation.

More and more buildings and industrial enterprises are feeding electricity into the distribution grid. IT-supported solutions create the necessary transparency for active load management and make additional business possible in the form of ancillary services directly at or downstream of the meter. Solutions for microgrids and virtual power plants also open up the options of an adaptive grid and intelligent load balancing for stabilizing power grids.

On the consumer side, intelligent building automation makes it possible to discover and implement energy efficiency measures: A building management platform collects, networks and visualizes building, production and installation data and monitors the effectiveness of implemented measures. This increases efficiency and reduces costs.
