Introducing Hour of Engineering

Built to inspire middle school students to consider future careers, the Hour of Engineering is an engaging online learning program designed for educators to introduce students to engineering with right-sized learning content in as little as one hour using videos, real-world examples, challenges and 3D simulations, the learning materials encourage students to explore engineering concepts and careers.

Challenges encourage deep thinking and problem-solving skills that also extend offline for additional hands-on activities. This is a FREE program developed by Siemens Digital Industries Software a direct response to the predicted shortage of engineers.

The Siemens EMPOWER+ grant is funding three programs within the City of Miramar, FL that support educational programming for underserved citizens in the community.

Programs supported by the grant include:

Miramar Technology Training Access Center to teach digital literacy to older adults and others
The Power Hour young student achievement program

The Cultural Start Program / Siemens Passport into Arts and Culture, which engages citizens from every walk of life in unique educational and cultural opportunities.

Colleges and Universities

To complement an impressive array of facility modernization and energy optimization efforts on their Ocala campus, College of Central Florida is leveraging Siemens EMPOWER+ program to help nearby College Park Elementary, a largely underserved and at-risk school population, in creating an indoor and outdoor Science Lab focused on STEM disciplines.

The STEM lab is now used by all grade levels, with extra time allotted to fourth and fifth grades. College of Central Florida students will have the opportunity to tutor College Park pupils as part of this unique project.
