Manual pallet handling? That's now a thing of the past at Tarkett. Gebroeders Doms automated the step after the automatic warehouse: fully automated pallet assembly and wrapping. Not with a fixed conveyor line, but with flexible AGVs and robots. Ideal for scaling organically as production volumes grow—and with significantly fewer forklift movements.
Thousands of Kilos Every Day
Millions of square meters of carpet tiles flow through Tarkett's logistics warehouse in Waalwijk annually. In 2020, Tarkett built a new automated warehouse with standard forklift AGVs to streamline this flow. Single-product pallets only needed wrapping from that point on. However, mixed pallets with multiple product references still required manual preparation by warehouse staff.
"A single box of carpet tiles weighs approximately 20 kg," explains Ronnie van Gils, a warehouse supervisor. "By the end of a workday, you've easily lifted thousands of kilos. Unloading, labeling, restacking on a new pallet, moving to the wrapper… We worked with great precision, but it was physically demanding and repetitive—and warehouse staff are hard to find."
"We tried everything to make the work more ergonomic for our team: adjusted heights, exoskeletons… But these were just band-aids. That's why it's great that Tarkett, as a company, is investing in a fully automated warehouse. With this setup, we can continue to grow in the future."
