The CO2 Performance Ladder

Siemens NV and Siemens Mobility NV have been certified for level 2 of the CO₂ Performance Ladder (Handbook 4.0) since early 2026. We explain what that means on this page. You can also view the associated documents here.

The CO₂ Performance Ladder is a certification system that encourages companies to reduce their CO₂ emissions. It is designed to provide companies with insight into their energy consumption and CO₂ footprint, and to help them formulate and achieve concrete reduction targets. Handbook 4.0 of the ladder has three levels, with higher levels requiring deeper insight and greater ambition for energy and CO₂ reduction. This includes supply chain involvement and transparent communication.

Companies certified on the CO₂ Performance Ladder may receive a bidding advantage in tenders.

On this page, you will find all documentation regarding our certificate.

In 2025, we implemented a CO₂ and energy management system in line with the CO₂ Performance Ladder. Our base year is fiscal year 2024, which ran from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024, but we have already reported CO₂ data from 2019 in our corporate sustainability report.

Our commitment

We recognize the urgency of climate protection. It is our top priority to contribute to the goals of the Paris Agreement. As a global technology company, we recognize that our activities along the value chain generate greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e emissions). This contributes to a global temperature increase and other irreversible changes to our planet and our ecosystems.

We are committed to helping mitigate climate change. At the same time, we assess climate-related risks and opportunities and potential measures to adapt to climate change, in order to ensure business continuity and functioning supply chains.

Our goal: we are aiming for net-zero
With our science-based net-zero target, validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), we demonstrate our commitment to aligning our business activities with the 1.5°C decarbonization pathway.

We commit to...

  • Reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by FY2030 and maintain a minimum of 90% absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions reductions from FY2030 through FY2050 from a FY2019 base year
  • Reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 30% by FY2030 from a FY2019 base year
  • Reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90% by FY2050 from a FY2019 base year
  • Reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by FY205

You will find these, and our other commitments, in our Policy Statement.

* The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks

Our achievements in Belgium and Luxembourg to date

-39% CO2 emissions 2024 in scope 1 and 2 since 2019

46% battery-electric cars in our fleet

-37% energy consumption since 2019 (incl. energy from fuels
