Good climate for the trade fair business

Messe Frankfurt relies on forward-looking and efficient building automation from Siemens. All building technology from Siemens and third-party providers will be BACnet-capable and migrated to Desigo CC

Huge step into the future of building automation

Messe-Frankfurt-indoor

Founded in 1907, Messe Frankfurt is the world's largest trade fair, congress and event organiser with its own exhibition grounds. Thanks to its optimal transport connections and infrastructure, the Main metropolis is a top location for exhibitors and visitors. Eleven halls with a floor area of around 592,000 square metres are operated on the exhibition grounds. They are to be automated efficiently and cost-effectively.

Challenge

Currently, around 60,000 SiclimatX data points and around 20,000 data points from third-party providers are installed at the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre, each with its own building management system and several self-sufficient BACnet controllers. This extensive inventory of building technology is to be transferred to a common and future-proof system – based on the neutral data communication protocol BACnet, which also integrates the existing room booking system.

Solution

The migration concept connects all buildings with the building management platformI follow CC. The automation inventory is integrated directly into the platform via already installed Simatic S7 stations as well as via IoT gateway for the existing Simatic S5 stations. After completion of the changeover, around 140,000 data points and around 6,000 images will be integrated for the trade fair. In the future, each individual hall supervisor as well as service technicians will be able to access the building management system directly or remotely. The trade fair's room booking system is also integrated into Desigo CC.

Benefit

Desigo CC offers an open, future-proof technology platform with a high level of comfort, flexibility and first-class energy efficiency for the entire building automation system. With Desigo CC, the trade fair benefits from the open, BACnet-capable system platform, which integrates already installed technology with significantly reduced effort. Thanks to 20 operator stations, all hall masters can access Desigo CC directly. A maintenance contract with Siemens ensures fast and competent support for the trade fair if required.
