Digi Index 2024

This is the fifth edition of our study!

For five years now, Siemens has been monitoring the level and progress in the digitalization of medium-sized manufacturing companies operating in Poland in the following sectors: Food & Beverage, Chemistry & Pharmacy, Automotive, and Machinery.

"This year's edition of the Digi Index report shows that Polish manufacturing companies are consistently moving towards full digital transformation, although the pace could be more dynamic."

EDITION 2024 – not without surprises!

This year's report highlights the dynamic growth in digital maturity among mid-sized manufacturing companies in 2024. In 2024, the Digi Index, measured on a four-point scale, rose to 2.3 from 1.8 the previous year.

A significant contribution to this growth was made by the spectacular growth in the food sector, demonstrating that the industry is undergoing intensive transformation. For large companies, there was a slight correction – from 2.7 to 2.5.

The survey also showed that companies want to allocate nearly 28% of their budgets to digitization – twice as much as a year ago!

"The report shows that Polish entrepreneurs are optimistic about investment planning – as many as 30% of surveyed companies declare an increase in their digitization budget within a year."

Data is the "green gold" of our times

The surveyed entrepreneurs increasingly recognize the benefits of digitalization.

They place particular importance on data collection and analysis, although they still acknowledge that effectively utilizing it for business optimization is a significant challenge. Data is the most valuable asset of modern, digitalized enterprises. It enables operational efficiency on many levels, including achieving sustainable development goals.

"The results of Siemens' Digi Index research to date show that the perception of the benefits of digitalization among Polish mid-sized companies is evolving. However, we are still operating within the same framework of concepts – higher efficiency, cost savings, and process optimization."

"Since the beginning of our research, the automotive sector has remained the undisputed leader in digitalization – this year with an index of 2.6. However, the pace of digital transformation in this sector has slowed down somewhat – what does this mean for the industry and the economy?"

A transformative hurdles race

Experts invited to analyse the results of our study agree: one of the most significant challenges on the path of digital transformation for Polish companies — alongside financing and the effective use of data — is adopting a strategic and comprehensive approach to digitalization.

“For digital transformation to deliver value, it requires a comprehensive approach and the integration of digital solutions across every level of operations.”

Paweł Chaber, Expert at the Department of Analysis and Strategy, Polish Agency for Enterprise Development

“The study results indicate that, in addition to financing challenges, the most significant weakness of Polish enterprises is the lack of a strategic approach to digital transformation.”
