Continuous supervision with Electrification X - OT Companion

At the Marsa North distribution center, the implementation of Electrification X – OT Companion marked a pioneering milestone, as it represents the first application of its kind for a TSO in Europe delivered by Siemens Italy. This cloud‑based and IoT‑enabled digital solution provides continuous and comprehensive supervision of OT environments. With this advanced tool, Enemalta teams can constantly monitor software vulnerabilities and systematically manage patching across the national infrastructure. This ensures that every critical component operates at the highest levels of security and reliability required by European regulations such as the NIS2 directive.

Accelerate transformation with Electrification X

OT Companion is an integral part of Electrification X, the Software‑as‑a‑Service suite developed by Siemens for the electrification and automation of energy systems. Within the Siemens Xcelerator ecosystem, these digital solutions provide energy‑transition operators with advanced tools to enhance grid reliability and availability. This portfolio increases operational efficiency and strengthens cybersecurity while optimizing resource utilization. Its scalable, cloud‑native approach ensures that Malta’s electrical infrastructure can evolve seamlessly toward centralized, consistent, and secure grid management, effectively supporting the achievement of national cybersecurity objectives.

Consolidate long-term resilience

The decade‑long collaboration between Siemens and Enemalta plc has enabled the launch of an annual proactive vulnerability‑monitoring contract, transforming traditional maintenance into an advanced digital defense strategy. This approach not only aligns the company with the stringent cybersecurity requirements of the NIS2 directive, but also establishes a solid and reliable foundation for the future development of Malta’s and Gozo’s national energy infrastructures. The project’s expansion aims to achieve centralized management of the entire OT network, strengthening protection across the island territory. Together with Siemens Italy, Enemalta continues to explore new technological frontiers to make energy distribution increasingly resilient.

Designed to accompany energy transition operators, Electrification X makes it possible to improve the reliability and availability of grids, increase operational efficiency, strengthen cybersecurity, and optimize the use of resources.
