Our Journey Towards Inclusion

All journeys begin with the first step...

Creating an Inclusive Culture in the Company

To make our direction tangible, we began our journey in diversity, equity, and inclusion by choosing clear DE&I Governance with defined roles and methodology, facilitating maximum involvement of people. The management of the program included appointing managerial figures who promote and spread awareness, while also being responsible for implementing the plan of concrete actions.

Siemens has recently achieved gender equality certification, highlighting its commitment to equality and inclusion. This milestone reflects the company's policies aimed at promoting a fair work environment, where every employee, regardless of gender, has the same opportunities for growth and development.

The certification is another step towards consolidating an inclusive and diverse corporate culture that values everyone's contributions.

The Agile Methodology

In the community, we use a methodology borrowed from the software world. It's the Agile methodology, which involves incremental definition and development, adaptive planning, and direct, continuous involvement of top management throughout the process. Simultaneously, we adopt a Lean approach, borrowed from production environments, which focuses on simplification and closer interaction with stakeholders. This involves using virtual workspaces and acting both top-down and bottom-up.

Companies with an effective DEI policy not only perform better, but are also more sustainable and capable of adapting to internal and external changes. Diversity and inclusion are truly a source of corporate wealth.

The Five Ambitions of the Manifesto

Five ambitions —"listening," "valuing," "wellbeing," "sharing," and "future"—define our inclusion manifesto and trace the direction underlying the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) policy and action plan.

Our Contribution to inclusion, diversity, and equity

We are committed to guiding the professional orientation of new generations through strengthening local networks and supporting associations that contribute to fostering a culture around technology and sustainability.

Women, Valuing Talent

We have joined Women&Tech - Women and Technology Association to share experiences and expertise in the areas of technology and sustainability.

Thanks to the association's networking, we also participate in the Women Empowerment Program (WEP), an inter-company mentorship program developed to support women during the most important moments of their careers. It is based on the trust relationship between mentor and mentee.

About 30 Siemens colleagues participate in the project; among them, some act as mentors, offering their success stories and the challenges they faced in their careers, while others take on the role of mentees, eager to grow and learn from the relationship with other professional women.

Siemens joins the Valore D community

We have chosen to join Valore D, the association of companies in Italy that promotes gender equity and an inclusive culture for the growth of businesses and the Country.

Through this partnership, we support campaigns such as #ValoreD4STEM, #FillThePanelGap, a Research Center dedicated to DEI topics, and high-impact projects like Inspiring Girls, In the Board Room, and the podcast Scelte.

Youth, Orientation, and Training

We participate in an inter-company project to support the guidance of young students in lower secondary schools called "Da grande farò" ("When I Grow Up, I Will Be"). Specifically, around thirty colleagues, on a voluntary basis and after dedicated training, have started a series of three online lessons focused on personal work-related experiences, coding, and guidance for choosing their educational path.

The initiative has a dual purpose: to provide young people with the tools for making informed choices about their professional future, particularly as STEM fields become increasingly important, and to enable an open generational exchange between corporate volunteers and young students.
