The history of Siemens in Turkey dates back to 1856, when the company built the Istanbul Telegraph Center. In 1958, SIMKO A.S. was founded as a partnership between Siemens and the Koc Group. In 2000, after 42 years of partnership with the Koc Group, SIMKO A.S. was transformed into a wholly owned Siemens subsidiary and renamed Siemens Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. Siemens operates two factories and 13 offices in Turkey.
Siemens participated in this year’s biggest Turkish power generation project, the 850-MW Gebze combined cycle power plant. The EUR 32-million contract, awarded to the Fossil Power Generation Division by Ansaldo Energia and Unit Investment NV, comprised delivery of the complete electrical equipment and instrumentation and control system for the plant built by Siemens AG, Siemens Italy and Siemens Turkey. One of the Sector’s biggest projects was signed with Acibadem Hospital in Ankara for its renovation project: Siemens will provide state-of-the-art medical equipment worth EUR 9 million. The Sector completed projects for the Ministry of Health, delivering a computed tomography (CT) package worth EUR 5.4 million and an angiography/x-ray (AX) package worth EUR 8.4 million.
