Siemens has been active in Switzerland for 118 years. The Siemens Switzerland regional company and its various affiliates and subsidiaries hold leading market positions in the four Sectors: Energy, Healthcare, Industry and Infrastructure & Cities. In 2012, the real estate division of Grossbank Credit Suisse (Real Estate Asset Management) hired Siemens’ experts to analyze and optimize approximately 1,000 buildings in Switzerland by 2015. This systematic analysis is expected to help cut CO2 emissions by 10 percent, or roughly 13,000 metric tons.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), the Siemens Switzerland regional company reported around EUR 1.13 billion in sales, while new orders totaled more than EUR 1.05 billion. The Siemens companies employ about 5,350 people in Switzerland.
The Siemens name has been closely associated with Switzerland ever since one of the first power plants was built in Canton Bern in 1894. Active in all parts of the country, the company is now one of Switzerland’s largest industrial employers. Siemens’ Building Technologies Division also has its international headquarters here.
Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) will replace its existing train control system with ETCS technology – the standard throughout Europe – on its railway network by the end of 2017. SBB will invest as much as EUR 250 million in this project. Siemens will install about 9,000 of the total of 11,000 automatic train control points. Siemens engineers have already put into service the first ETCS facility in Airolo, Canton Ticino. The ETCS system not only facilitates network access in cross-border railway service, it is also the central element for increasing safety, capacity, and reliability in the future.
