Siemens has been active in the country since 1887. This also means 125 years of tramways in the capital Budapest, because this was Siemens’ first project in Hungary. The anniversary was celebrated jointly with the city of Budapest. In addition to business activities, Siemens Hungary – in the spirit of corporate social responsibility – continues to contribute to the development of the country’s nonprofit sectors. These contributions have been recognized in Hungary, and Siemens has received several awards from state and private organizations. The company is involved in strategic cooperation with all Hungarian technical universities and supports and enhances R&D and innovation projects. This year Siemens became a member of the Business Council for Sustainable Development in Hungary (BCSDH) – through this organization Siemens is the initiator of the BCSDH protocol “Recommendation for business leaders: The Complex Interpretation of Corporate Sustainability”.
In fiscal 2012 (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012), Siemens’ sales to customers in Hungary amounted to approximately EUR 191.1 million and new orders totaled almost EUR 197.8 million. Siemens currently has over 2,000 employees in Hungary.
Siemens established its first company in Hungary in 1890. Early achievements by Siemens included the first subway line on the European mainland, a network of tram lines in Budapest and the installation of electric street lighting on the main roads of the capital city. In the early 1900s, Siemens also became a leading manufacturer of electrical cables and equipment, and was a major player in the development of the country’s electrical and electronics industry until the end of World War II. Since 1989-90, through acquisitions and investments, Siemens again established a group of local companies and helped the country modernize its industry and infrastructure.
Together with the continuing use of various types of diagnostic equipment which are well established in Hungary – such as the SOMATOM Emotion CT and Luminos dRF – 2012 also saw the first installation in the country of the MAGNETOM C! 0,35T and Magnetom Essenza 1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging systems as well as the Multix Select DR X-ray system, and the first order for a two-way angiographic system.
