High Speed capability
Representing the future of rail travel
High-speed rail has the potential to transform passenger experience and improve connections between urban and highly-populated areas. Projects like HS2 require industry leaders to take advantage of leading technologies and future-ready design, development and production methods to ensure we maximise the potential for the UK.
Latest engineering and innovative technologies for state-of-the-art rolling stock and infrastructure for high-speed rail journeys
Fast and reliable train services have the ability to truly transform connectivity between cities and regions, delivering economic growth and reducing the use of cars. Brand new high-speed rail projects also present an opportunity to set a new benchmark for the passenger experience of rail travel.
Siemens has extensive international experience in building, maintaining and financing state-of-the-art rolling stock and infrastructure for high-speed and intercity rail travel. Siemens has a full range of capabilities including rolling stock, signalling and train control, tunnel technology, power, communications and building technologies for stations.
Siemens' Velaro-Platform is a family of some of the world’s fastest and most reliable high-speed trains operating in countries such as Spain, China, Russia, Germany and the UK. The fourth generation of the Velaro is the Eurostar e320, the UK’s only very high-speed train, which can reach a maximum operating speed of 320km/h.
Siemens’ high-speed infrastructure can be seen across the world. For example, it supplied the tunnel control technology and fire protection systems for the Gotthard Base Tunnel in the Alps, the world's longest railway tunnel. With more than 200 trains a day barrelling through the 57km tunnel at speeds up to 250 km/h and beneath as much as 2,300m of solid rock, safety is paramount. Siemens installed a sophisticated tunnel control system with over 200,000 sensors to prevent the occurrence of an emergency.
Further examples of high speed infrastructure projects delivered by Siemens include the Cologne-Rhein high-speed line, “HSL Zuid” in the Netherlands, the Beijing – Tianjin high speed line in China, the Ankara – Konya high-speed line in Turkey, as well as various projects on high speed lines in Spain.
Siemens’ high-quality standards in high-speed ensure comfort, efficiency and flexibility that impress rail operators, investors and passengers worldwide.
High-speed represents the future of rail travel and holds enormous transformative potential for connections between urban and highly-populated areas. It is up to industry leaders to take advantage of cutting-edge technologies and future-ready design, development and production methods to ensure we maximise this potential.
Modern transport is about much more than getting from point A to point B and passengers are demanding more from their rail services. From helping commuters track the quickest and most efficient route, to revolutionising information systems and designing cutting-edge rolling stock, the solution is multi-faceted and complex.
