Siemens Research - Where what if meets what matters

Research is in Siemens’ DNA. Our scientists are driving innovation by developing the vital technological backbone of global industry, energy and infrastructure. We work alongside academia and startups to solve real-world problems. In short, we transform what if into what matters.

We turn frontier tech into trusted industrial impact

Some see the world as it is. We see what matters. At Siemens Research, curiosity is where every breakthrough begins. Bold questions meet the technologies that matter for industry and society. We explore what could be possible and turn it into reliable, scalable and impactful technologies for the real world.

We don’t work in isolation, but collaborate closely with our ecosystem, which includes universities, research institutes, startups and technology and industry leaders. This is how Siemens Research shapes the future of industry, buildings, trains, energy systems and critical infrastructure.

Siemens Company Core Technologies

We want to be at the cutting edge of several important technology and innovation fields that have been determined to be critical for our success and of our customers. We call them the Company Core Technologies (CCTs) as they are at the core of our research. Our work includes pioneering resilient software architectures and self-evolving software for industrial environments. We combine the real and the digital worlds using physical systems, digital twins, AI, simulation, automation and data to solve problems that others cannot access.

And we focus on providing built-in guarantees for quality and operable autonomy. Our technology is trustworthy because we prioritize safety, security, robustness, explainability and reliability, and aims to meet the industry's stringent requirements. In addition to applied research, we have a dedicated long-term research unit exploring technologies with product visions of 5+ years, beyond our current portfolio.

Johannes Hechtel: When speed meets safety in robotics

When speed meets safety in robotics

In their IROS 2026 paper, "Enabling dynamic tracking in vision-language-action models," Johannes Hechtl, Philipp Schmitt, Georg von Wichert, and Wolfram Burgard introduce two model-agnostic action space representations with velocity feedforward to fix discrete, low-frequency VLA targets. Tested on 1mm cube-in-hole tasks using Universal Robots, it boosts teleoperated throughput by 56% and autonomous VLA throughput by 18% with faster, safe tracking.
