Siemens corporate headquarter

The Siemens corporate headquarters at Wittelsbacher Platz in Munich relies on its own technology.

Benchmark for environmentally friendly construction

At our corporate headquarters in Munich, we implemented a comprehensive environmental and sustainability concept. The historic Palais Ludwig Ferdinand has been renovated and seamlessly integrated into a modern new building. Since 2016, our headquarters has been offering an attractive and pleasant working environment for around 1,200 employees on around 45,000 square metres of above-ground floor space.

Challenge

Contemporary architecture with an open and forward-looking working environment was to be combined with highly efficient technology in the new construction of the Group headquarters on a site area of 11,000 square metres, while at the same time meeting the highest standards of sustainability. The new building had to be operated exclusively with renewable energies – and it was to emit only nine kilograms of CO2 per square metre per year.

Solution

Our control center has been designed and technically powered, illuminated and shaded in such a way that the energy requirement is minimal. It is mainly covered by photovoltaics and geothermal energy. Our innovative smart building solutions are used. The Desigo building management system networks and coordinates the heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology with lighting and shading. Presence detectors, CO2 sensors and daylight sensors record the energy requirement. With our cloud-based Navigator and Siemens Remote Services, energy management becomes digital and even more reliable. Our access control and fire alarm, alarm and video systems ensure security. At the heart of the system is the GMA-Manager hazard management system.

Benefit

The nearly zero-energy building is a prime example of resource efficiency. The technical systems are consistently networked, optimally coordinated and thus create a productive working environment. The building technology is modular and adapts flexibly to use, all of which met the platinum standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED. This makes the headquarters a perfect showcase project for forward-looking and innovative construction.
