Full performance with zero investment

Burda Druck Nürnberg GmbH is part of the print and media service provider Hubert Burda Media. For decades, he has been publishing and producing millions of magazines, magazines, catalogues, advertising prints and even school books. At the site in Franconia, four rotogravure presses with a printing width of up to 3.64 meters are running. The company has been relying on building technology from Siemens for years. With Security as a Service, the print shop is breaking new ground in the technical upgrading of the hazard control system.

Nuremberg-based Burda Druckerei has so far relied on the proven hazard detection and fire protection systems from Siemens. When the GMA manager and the SIGMASYS fire alarm system were to be modernized, a comprehensive and forward-looking overall hardware, software and service solution for security and fire protection was an option. The modernization should be low-investment at the beginning as well as have scalable operating and service costs during the lifetime of the new plants. Another challenge was to implement the modernization during ongoing operations – with the least possible downtime. In addition, a critical control of the extinguishing system and building management technology, as well as the energy supply, had to be taken into account.

Protection and security from a single source

Security as a Service is a complete package of hardware, software and services. "Use instead of buy" is the name of the concept in which Siemens offers all this for a monthly service rate. The model is offered for all disciplines of safety technology. The "Control as a Service" package replaces the GMA manager with Siveillance Control – including all technical components and a comprehensive range of services consisting of on-site and remote services. Numerous fire and safety systems can be integrated into Siveillance Control. All alarms, faults and status information from the subsystems converge here.

Compatible and fast

For fire protection, the SIGMASYS fire alarm system with four networked control panels from Sinteso FS20 will be replaced with the necessary hardware and software from Siemens. Sinteso is a comprehensive system for fast, safe fire detection, alarm and control. The fire protection concept is compatible with the hazard guidance system and thus offers protection and safety from a single source.

With the "Security as a Service" model, Burda Druck Nürnberg benefits from many advantages: The print shop can use the functions of the hazard control system to the full extent, but does not have to buy them. The investments can be made elsewhere, such as the fire alarm panels. Transparent and constant service rates enable planning security for the future and scalable costs. An inclusive maintenance contract for the hardware and continuous software maintenance ensure comprehensive security at all times. In addition to these services, Burda Druck Media also benefits from digital services. The print shop gains insight into the current state of the system and can thus detect and prevent malfunctions at an early stage. This is elementary for fully continuous printing operations. If the operation does not go as expected, the print shop receives remote support in addition to on-site service. Thanks to digital diagnostics and fault clearance, the availability of the hazard control system can be further increased.

With the customized package of hardware, software and services at a fixed monthly price, Siemens offers a smart and cost-effective renewal of the hazard control and fire protection system – precisely adapted to the requirements of Burda Druck Nürnberg GmbH. Instead of an initial investment, Siemens is handling the innovative solution via linear service rates at a fixed term. The customer saves the initial investment and protects the balance sheet with monthly installments. With Control as a Service, the print shop is handing over part of its responsibility to Siemens in exchange for a convenience package for improved hazard management.
