With the technology-specific system software of the SINUMERIK 828 CNCs, the range of applications extends from vertical and basic horizontal machining centers – naturally also for mold making applications – surface and cylindrical grinding machines up to two-channel turning centers with counter spindle, driven tools and Y axis. Rugged hardware architecture and intelligent control algorithms, along with premium drive and motor technology, ensure the highest dynamic response and precision when machining.
Using SINUMERIK Operate, all machining technologies, from basic to complex, can be intuitively handled with a standard "look & feel".
In addition to two high-performance CNC versions of SINUMERIK 828D, the SINUMERIK 828D BASIC represents a favorably priced entry into the compact class. And the SINUMERIK 828D ADVANCED rounds of the portfolio upwards with more axes [8(M), 10(T/G)] – and up to two additional machining channels [1(M), 2(T/G)].
As a consequence, SINUMERIK 828 controls are always perfectly adapted to the performance requirements of standardized machine concepts for turning (T), milling (M) and grinding (G).
Automated cells play a decisive role in making the production environment more productive and more flexible. Robots can be simply integrated into production workflows for handling tasks via the Run MyRobot /EasyConnect interface.
SINUMERIK 828 controls are equipped as standard with 10.4" TFT color displays. The PPU 290 – a state-of-the-art capacitive touch display with 15.6" screen diagonal – is available for SINUMERIK 828D and SINUMERIK 828D ADVANCED.
The PPU 290 facilitates multitouch operation of the SINUMERIK 828. The 15.6" panel is rugged and able to stand up to harsh environments. SINUMERIK Operate is optimized for touch operation.

The SinuTrain offline programming station brings SINUMERIK Operate to the PC, including an animated machine control panel, to create a training situation that is very similar to that experienced in reality. This facilitates an easy transition from a training into a practical environment. This powerful tool allows NC programs to be programmed offline at a PC in an environment that is close to reality; these NC programs can then be directly transferred to the CNC. CNCs can be programmed in a training environment exactly as they will be subsequently used in real machines controlled by SINUMERIK. Perfectly tailored training packages are available as well as a free-of-charge basic version – everything you need for efficient training in your own environment.
Supplementary system components
SINUMERIK 828 controls, teamed up with SINAMICS drives and SIMOTICS motion control motors, are optimally designed to address the requirements of standard machines.
SINAMICS S120 Combi combines the performance of the modular SINAMICS S120 in a compact, rugged design. One infeed and up to four Cabinet Modules are integrated in one housing. This drive is the ideal basis for equipping compact standard machine concepts with a spindle power of 15 kW and up to five feed axes.
The new SINAMICS S120 Booksize devices combine compactness with power density. The width can be reduced for applications that are dimensioned according to the maximum current. The height has also been reduced as a result of a new motor connection/shield concept.
High stall torques, high maximum speeds and smooth running characteristics make SIMOTICS servomotors the optimum feed drive for machine tools. The high degree of protection, strong bearings and rugged design mean that these synchronous servomotors have outstanding reliability. Our SIMOTICS S-1FK7 feed motors are precisely coordinated and matched with our SINAMICS S120 Combi drive system.
Compact SIMOTICS M-1PH8 induction motors have been specifically designed for use as spindle motors in machine tools, and are harmonized and matched to our SINAMICS S120 Combi drive system.
