Sustainable, innovative solutions from Siemens Mobility for rail and road transport

As a consequence of the megatrends of urbanization, globalization and demographic change, demand for mobility is soaring worldwide. Passenger transport is expected to triple by the year 2050. At the same time, climate change is underscoring the necessity and urgency of providing sustainable mobility. 
Sustainable mobility systems are critically important for resource-saving economic development and the sustainable shaping of our societies. Sustainability is the key factor for enhancing the prosperity and quality of life for all people, while at the same time sensibly limiting the consumption of resources out of consideration of the environment and future generations. 

Mireo Plus B 

The battery-powered train Mireo Plus B makes climate-friendly, locally emission-free passenger transport possible, thus offering a sustainable alternative to the use of diesel-powered trains on non-electrified rail routes.

Velaro Novo – the new vehicle concept for high speed trains

Running at 300 km/h, the new high-speed train uses 30 percent less energy than previous Velaro models, which translates to average savings of 1,375 tons of CO2 a year. Thanks to its lightweight construction, the train's weight was reduced by 15 percent. At the same time, available space for passengers was increased by ten percent.

Vectron Dual Mode 

The Vectron Dual Mode enables operators to increase value sustainably over their entire lifecycle. The locomotive can also operate through gaps in the electrified sections, eliminating the need to change locomotives. At the same time, conurbations and major cities, where there is often an electrified rail network, are spared emissions.

Desiro ML ÖBB Cityjet eco

Operating as a battery-powered train, the Cityjet eco is an alternative for non-electrified rail lines primarily served at present with diesel-powered passenger trains. Battery operation can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50 percent compared to diesels.
