When technology helps produce affordable vehicles for all.
That's Ingenuity for life.
India’s number one utility vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra, uses a proven strategic project approach for precision manufacturing.
The surge in manufacturing
Automotive manufacturers need strategic partners to guide them through the entire process of concept, planning, design, assembly and manufacture to maximize productivity gains.
Mahindra & Mahindra
Delivering on customers’ needs
For car manufacturers like Mahindra & Mahindra, achieving its vision of delivering reliability, affordability and fuel efficiency is all about manufacturing excellence, technological superiority and differentiated products.
Mahindra and Mahindra, a leading manufacturer of automobiles, utility vehicles, tractors and farm equipment, selected Siemens solutions not only for its powertrain and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software but also as a strategic project management partner.
Combining its industry expertise with experience in delivering the latest automation solutions, Siemens provided a holistic solution across the entire value chain from design, planning, engineering, execution and services. This included Siemens Technology for Powertrain (STP), Industry Software (#SiemensPLM) and Integrated Automation.
The main advantages for the customer include the system’s breadth of functionality and its flexibility to integrate existing niche applications. Teamcenter® has helped Mahindra set up a unified platform for managing new product development processes, and allows the seamless integration with CAD software, resulting in better productivity for the company and high-performance vehicles for its users.
With a holistic approach stretching over the complete manufacturing value chain, right from product design, production design, operations and service, we have one foot in the next level of manufacturing.
The automation solutions provided by Siemens is integrated into the “Poka-Yoke” manufacturing philosophy of Mahindra that helps an equipment operator avoid mistakes. Its purpose is to eliminate product defects by preventing, correcting, or drawing attention to human errors as they occur.
Powertrain, the solution offered by Siemens included SINUMERIK, SINAMICS, SIMOTICS and SIMATIC controls and drives as well as CNC and PLC-controlled machines that are linked via the Profinet interface. As a strategic project partner, Siemens also provided solutions to optimize life cycle costs viz. knowledge management, troubleshooting packages and training to help Mahindra achieve their Project Management objectives.
"A holistic closed-loop approach throughout the whole value chain is necessary, right from product design to production design/execution to service and continuous monitoring," says Ashish Bhat, Country Division Lead, Digital Factory, Siemens Ltd. "This is where we support the automotive industry, enabling customers to digitalize and integrate their entire manufacturing value chain."
