A perfect place to work

Marina Bay Financial Centre in Singapore

Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC) was planned as “city in a garden” with plenty of green features, such as extensive landscaping, sky terraces and gardens evenly distributed throughout the structure to reduce urban heat load and energy consumption. Spanning 3.5 hectares, MBFC comprises three office towers, two residential towers and a subterranean retail space of 14,400 m2. Completed in 2013, the development itself carried a price tag of S$2 billion, and it has won multiple awards.

Challenge

MBFC required that all the information from the towers’ systems be viewable on a single platform.

Solution

Siemens’ technologies provided the best option, as they are able to interact seamlessly with each other and with high-level interfaces to third-party systems. Therefore, Siemens was chosen to provide the security, fire safety and energy management solutions for the complex.

These products are part of the Siemens package:

  • Navigator cloud-based energy and sustainability platform
  • Apogee Building Automation System
  • SiPass Access Control System (Phase 1)
  • Siemens CCTV surveillance system
  • Algorex fire detection system
  • Extra-low-voltage system
  • Desigo CC integrate building management system (third-party GUI)

In addition, Siemens also provides digital energy services to MBFC. The Navigator platform is connected to the Siemens Service Center, from where energy experts monitor data and system performance, and make recommendations on facility improvement measures.

Benefits

The integrated solution enables MBFC facility managers to simultaneously run applications for controlling air-conditioning, lights and blinds, access control and fire detection, as well as ensure clear and fast alarming and evacuation processes. Navigator allows operators to achieve daily transparency on energy and water consumption, and communicate and report on the building’s sustainability achievements.

It is estimated that the environmental features incorporated into MBFC reduce the annual energy bill by 22.5% compared to a standard office development of the same scale.

Commitment to environmental design features and green building technologies has earned MBFC multiple awards since the complex’s completion in 2013. Among others, the complex won Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Award four times, including the platinum award in 2016 – the scheme’s highest honor.
