The Power to Change – Opening Keynote Session

While there are many trends shaping and re-shaping the energy landscape, Willi Meixner, CEO of the Siemens Power & Gas Division, will focus on a vital few that are likely to have the largest impact in the coming decade:  Distributed Energy, Digitalization and Cyber Security, and Storage Technologies. He will provide an up close perspective on these trends and the main challenges associated with them, focusing on the key question about how these trends potentially threaten the traditional business models that have been part of our industry for decades. Meixner will also address how these developments impact existing challenges being addressed by governments and policy makers, such as CO2 reduction and an affordable energy supply. Finally, he will share his thoughts on how we, as an industry, must tackle the upcoming evolution together.

Generator swichgear

HB3 is the first generator switchgear worldwide with vacuum generator circuit-breakers for ratings up to 12,500 A with natural cooling and a switching capacity of 100 kA type-tested according to the IEEE C37.013 standard. It offers maximum operational reliability and a high degree of personal safety, as short circuits between phases are excluded due to the single-phase encapsulation. As a result of the flexibility of the phase spacing and diameters of the single-phase encapsulated IPBs, the HB3 fulfills all requirements for integration into the generator leads. The switchgear can be operated with the overpressure needed for the IPB system. The switchgear is type-tested in accordance with the standards IEC 62271-200 and IEEE/IEC 62271-37-013. The HB3 generator switchgear is suitable for power plants up to 400 MW depending on the type of power plant and the operating voltage.

Innovating Electrical Generators with Siemens State-of-the-Art Pressurized Air-Cooled technology

Siemens SGen-2000P series pressurized air-cooled generators with ratings up to 550 MVA are used in gas turbine and steam power plants. The SGen-2000P series features pressurized-air cooling with a water-cooled stator winding. Replacing hydrogen cooling with pressurized air significantly reduces plant complexity and operational cost.
