1931

Industry Ltd. is established in British East Africa to represent the interests of Siemens in Kenya and Uganda

 

1957

An agreement is reached with the branch offices of Jos. Hansen & Söhne, Hamburg, regarding a loose cooperation in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda

 

1967

Siemens establishes a sales office in Nairobi: Siemens Kenya Ltd.

 

1971

Siemens’ interests in the region are managed from its East Africa headquarters in Addis Ababa. The region comprises the countries Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. The sales office in Nairobi continues in operation

 

1973

Minority stake in Nairobi Electrical Industries Ltd. (NEI), Kenya

 

1973–1990

Siemens equips the Kenyan capital of Nairobi with traffic signal systems and traffic control technology in a three-stage project

 

1976

Siemens and J.M. Voith are awarded a contract by the East African Power & Lighting Co., Nairobi, to supply two turbine generators for a hydropower plant on the Tana River

 

1978

An agency agreement is concluded with NEI Kenya

 

1981–1982

The sales office in Nairobi is dissolved

 

1985

Siemens signs agency agreement with Joh. Achelis & Söhne GmbH & Co. in Bremen for the countries Kenya and Uganda (partially dissolved again in 1987)

 

1986–1987

Acquisition – together with a Kenyan investor – of Eastern Telecommunications Ltd. (ETL)

 

1996

Siemens acquires a 100 percent stake in ETL and changes the name to Siemens Communications Ltd. (SCL)

 

2000

Siemens is awarded a contract for the turnkey supply and installation of a mobile network for Kenya’s largest mobile communications provider, Safaricom

 

2002

Regional Company Siemens Ltd. is established in Nairobi and merged with Siemens Communications Ltd.

 

2004

Siemens constructs a complete Network Operation Center for Safaricom

 

2005

Siemens agrees to install switchgear for Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC)

 

2007

All Siemens activities in the countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi are now managed as the "East Africa Region," for which the Regional Company Siemens Ltd. in Kenya is responsible

 

2007

Siemens installs a compact water supply station with a SkyHydrant membrane filtration system in the remote Kenyan village of Obambo Kadenge

 

2008

OSRAM kicks off a one-of-a-kind project on Lake Victoria in Kenya to bring light to a region with no power grid: local inhabitants can recharge energy-saving lamps and other electric devices at small solar "filling stations" (OSRAM Energy Hubs), providing clean light at low cost

 

2008

Siemens supplies medical equipment to the Cancer Care Center in Nairobi, which treats patients from all over East and Central Africa

 

2011

Siemens is awarded a contract to extend both of the high-voltage transformer stations Rabai and Embakasi in Kenya, part of the power transmission project linking Mombasa and Nairobi. The customer is Kenya Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd. (KETRACO)
