Work is begun on laying the first direct telegraph cable across the Atlantic, linking Ballinskelligs Bay on Ireland’s west coast to North America

William Siemens builds the Portrush-Bushmills railway in County Antrim, one of the first electric railways

 

1925

The Siemens subsidiary Siemens-Schuckert (Ireland) Ltd. Is founded in Dublin

 

1925–1929

The Shannon hydroelectric power station is constructed in Ardnacrush to provide complete electrification for the Irish Free State

 

1937

The Siemens-Schuckert Manufacturing Co. is established in Dublin (specializing in meter assembly)

 

1952

The Irish companies are reacquired following the war

 

1963

Siemens builds the world’s largest peat-fired power station in Rhode, County Offaly

 

1966

Siemens-Schuckert (Ireland) Ltd. is renamed Siemens (Ireland) Ltd. In 1972, the name is again changed, to Siemens Ltd.

 

1969

The Irish Electricity Supply Board (ESB) awards Siemens a contract to provide equipment for Turlough Hill, Ireland’s first pump-fed power plant

 

1984

Siemens delivers the overhead line system for the DART rapid transit network in Dublin

 

1986

The company installs a Magnetom magnetic resonance imaging system in Dublin’s new Mater Private Hospital, the first system of its kind in Ireland

1998

A broadband ATM network is constructed for Telecom Eireann

 

1999

Siemens sets up an international online customer service center in Cork for Siemens communications equipment

 

2000

Siemens completes a state-of-the-art upgrade of the instrumentation and controls at the Guinness Brewery in Dublin

 

2003

Huntstown Power, Ireland’s first independent power plant, opens

 

2005

Siemens equips three blocks of the Moneypoint Power Plant with new instrumentation and controls as part of the plant’s upgrading

 

2007

Siemens wins an order to equip the Platin cement factory of Irish Cement Limited with an automation system

 

2010

Design and construction of the baggage handling system for Dublin Airport’s new terminal 2

 

2012

Siemens receives a major from the Irish utility Bord na Móna to deliver and service 42 direct-drive wind turbines for two onshore wind power plants
