Why SIQuench?

SIQuench is an active arc protection system that mitigates arc effects by quenching an internal arc in sub-cycle times. This minimizes equipment damage and service outages, reducing repair costs and downtime for operations. The reusable, maintenance-free system provides proactive safety measures that go beyond the safety set by the standards, improving process availability and protecting assets.

SIQuench is available as fully integrated solution for Siemens NXAIR switchgear. It also exists as a core component or as QuickFit module for integration in every type of MV air-insulated switchgear.

Outstanding performance

The system is reusable up to 5 times (on-load). It can also support up to 30 times no-load switching operations for testing and commissioning purposes, with no need for replacement.

The SIQuench doesn’t use an explosive medium, surpassing safety standards. It enhances maintenance safety and prevents toxic gas emissions from internal arc faults that can cause severe respiratory distress.

Arc flash protection

An arc protection relay rapidly and reliably detects the ignition of an internal arc and sends a trip signal to the main circuit-breaker and a trigger signal to the controller of the SIQuench.

Arc light pointing sensor

Each high voltage compartment of the switchgear is equipped with light point sensors with a light sensitive photodiode element activated by arc light. This enables a quick and accurate location of the faulted area.

Arc extinguishers

It can extinguish the arc fault in less than 5 ms from arc ignition to the closing of the quenching device. This is long before the pressure peak and before the arc can cause any significant damage.
