Digitalization in automotive industry

Future-oriented production at Audi

When it comes to digitalization, automobile manufacturers are leading the charge. The Digital Enterprise thrives on the integrated networking of production units, by which all manufacturing processes can be digitally controlled and monitored. Audi is already taking first steps in this direction at its production plant in Neckarsulm, Germany. It utilized the Totally Integrated Automation portfolio and TIA Portal for implementing the automation of its new Audi A8 production line. As a result, it was able to reduce its manufacturing complexity and spare parts stock. It also achieved ten percent time savings during the engineering in addition to lowering its energy and CO2 consumption by up to 17,000 tons annually.
