Outstanding fuel flexibility

The SGT5-2000E gas turbine is a proven, robust engine for the 50 Hz market which is used in simple cycle or combined cycle with or without combined heat and power. It is suitable for all load ranges, including peak load. The SGT5-2000E offers outstanding fuel flexibility: it can be fired with low calorific gases or gases containing CO₂, H₂S and N₂ as well as crude oil and other liquid fuels with high viscosity. In addition it provides low NOₓ emissions, even in the part-load range.

Highlights of the SGT5-2000E gas turbine

With our extensive fleet operating experience, the SGT5-2000E offers best-in-class fleet reliability of > 99%. Its robust turbine design is continuously enhanced by high-performance upgrades that allow for easy adaptation to new market requirements.

The SGT5-2000E offers a fast start-up capability with only about 12 minutes to achieve full load. Fast load change capability ensures accordance with the most stringent grid requirements for optimal frequency stabilization.

The SGT5-2000E offers dual-fuel capability and full fuel flexibility: Natural gas, LNG, syngas, blast furnace gas, biogas, ethane, propane, condensate, distillate oil, heavy and crude oils, bio-diesel, alcohols, naptha, kerosene.

It provides reliable starting and changeover between fuels.

The automatic changeover from the primary to the secondary fuel can be executed at reduced base-load.

The SGT5-2000E is suitable for a wide range of ambient conditions such as cold climates, hot and dry environments and dusty ambients.

For hot and dry ambient conditions, we offer different options to increase power output:

  • An evaporative cooler or an inlet air chiller with heat exchangers can be installed to avoid performance degradation 
  • A Wet Compression (WetC) system enhances the turbine performance by reducing compressor inlet temperatures and increasing the mass flow throughout the turbine

The SGT5-2000E is designed for easy maintenance to reduce outage times:

  • Rotor destacking/ re-stacking on site
  • Blades can be individually replaced without rotor lifting
  • Vane carriers can be removed without rotor lifting
  • Minor inspections are possible through spacious combustion chamber

SGT5-2000E core engine

The SGT5-2000E core engine has a  horizontally split casing. The two walk-in combustion chambers for hot-gas-path inspection without cover lift are equipped with individually replaceable ceramic tiles. The 16-stage axial-flow compressor with variable-pitch inlet guide vanes provides enhanced peak load operation and frequency stabilization.

The latest blade and vane design of the robust 4-stage turbine design offers stable and enhanced performance. The hybrid burners are able to operate in premix and diffusion mode with natural gas, fuel oil and special fuels such as heavy oil and refinery residues. The Low-NOₓ combustion system is suitable for single-digit NOₓ emissions.

SGT5-2000E package: short installation times

The SGT5-2000E gas turbine package consists of the core turbine, the SGen5-100A-2P generator and auxiliaries. It combines standardized basic design with options for location- and customer-specific requirements. Short installation times are achieved by standard components and pre-assembly or pre-packaging, with staggered delivery and early shipment of main components. Subsystems are grouped and installed in separate auxiliary packages to minimize field assembly and the need for piping fabrication during construction.

SGT5-2000E power plants

Siemens offers both simple cycle and combined cycle power plants with or without cogeneration.

The SGT5-2000E based combined cycle plants (SCC5-2000E) have the capability for fast start-up. Combined-cycle base load can be achieved within less than 12 minutes for start-up until full load with a startup gradient of 30 MW/min.High load gradients allow for fast load changes.

Excellent peaking capability, and high part load efficiency with emission compliance down to lower part load, make the SGT5-2000E plants a profitable solution for competitive energy markets with fluctuating power demand.

Our service offerings include Long Term Programs (LTP), overhaul services, field service, spare parts, reconditioning of components. With our continuous turbine development, we also offer fully retrofitable upgrades.

Flex-Power Services™ can in many cases be provided as a retrofit for the Siemens service fleet and combined with other modernizations. Fuel flexibility

The SGT5-2000E offers outstanding fuel flexibility. It can be fired with low calorific gases or gases containing CO₂, H₂S and N₂, as well as with crude oil and other liquid fuels with high viscosity.
Online fuel changeover from gas to oil and vice versa can be performed.

Low emissions

The SGT5-2000E provides low NOₓ emissions, even in the part-load range or using liquid fuels.
NOₓ emissions at 15% O₂ dry:

  • On fuel gas (without water injection for NOₓ control): NOₓ ≤ 25 ppmvd | CO  ≤ 10 ppmvd
  • On fuel oil (with water injection for NOₓ control): NOₓ ≤ 42 ppmvd | CO  ≤ 10 ppmvd
