SIRIUS components make for significant energy savings
New in the Environmental Portfolio of Siemens are parts of the SIRIUS industrial control technology component family. SIRIUS controls are designed to ensure minimal power loss, and help both passively and actively to make systems and applications efficient. The SIRIUS innovation components exhibit extremely low specific power loss: The new generation achieves an even more significant reduction. So not only can energy costs be saved but the waste heat in control cabinets can also be lowered. This means that more can be packed into a control cabinet and that less cooling is needed. Several of the products already support the PROFIenergy profile, making them especially easy to integrate into energy management systems.
The following components of the SIRIUS family are in the Environmental Portfolio:
- SIRIUS contactors: Our most energy-efficient contactors have an electronic coil control. This reduces power loss by up to 92 percent.
- SIRIUS soft starters: Soft starters with integrated bypass contacts can save up to 92 percent in specific power loss.
- SIRIUS overload relays: The new electronic overload relays measure power electronically, slashing power loss of the product by up to 98 percent.
- SIRIUS compact starters: Integrated electronic functionality permits higher energy savings compared to standard feeders. For the compact feeders, it is lowered by up to 80 percent. This is because the most efficient technologies are combined in one device.
The best drive solution in respect to energy
Another important way of saving energy is with drive solutions: While frequency inverters are specialized for dynamic processes, control technology with a direct, reversing, star, triangle or soft starter is the optimum solution for fixed-speed applications. For example, two-point controls can run our efficiency motors extremely efficiently and at the same time with minimal specific losses of the switching devices. In conjunction with our frequency inverters, several motors can be cascaded, which combines the benefits of both drive concepts very well.
