As a leading global company engaged in electronics and electrical engineering, Siemens operates in more than 190 countries. Competitiveness, customer proximity and customer orientation are becoming increasingly important as corporate success factors in a global world like ours. The 21st century work environment is subject to constant change and confronts employees with new or different challenges such as flexibility and mobility. Our global activities mean that staff need to travel more both in their home country and abroad, and business trips to some countries can present severe health risks. To protect our employees against potential health risks, we have developed a standardized medical service for frequent travelers and those traveling to countries with severe health risks: the Siemens Traveler Health Check (STHC).

The STHC includes consultations and medical examinations considering risks due to individual, regional and work related hazards. If necessary, the recommended vaccinations are given. These measures can significantly reduce the risk of falling ill while abroad. At the same time, early detection of any existing illness can improve the quality of life considerably. The STHC is offered to all frequent travelers who undertake more than ten international business trips a year and to employees traveling on business to countries that pose severe health risks. It is a standard product that can be adapted locally to fit in with national legal requirements and arrangements.

Following a successful pilot phase in Austria, the STHC has also been available in Germany since July 1, 2012. It is a fixed part of the travel management process and has thus been established nationwide in Germany. This process either points out the availability of a consultation and medical examination to infrequent travelers or prompts frequent travelers and those due to go to health-risk countries to undergo the STHC.

The STHC or comparable travel-related medical services is already available in Germany, Austria and parts of the United States. This means we cover about 40% of Siemens’ business travelers at present. Introduction of the STHC in other countries is the responsibility of the respective units and is currently being planned.
