Environmental product declarations
It is important to us to inform our customers about the environmental performance of our products and solutions.
To provide product-specific environmental data to our customers and other interested groups, we use environmental product declarations (EPDs) as a vivid and transparent presentation and communication medium. EPDs are based on an analysis of the product's or product group's entire lifecycle, which is documented and described transparently. For this purpose, we use ecological data from lifecycle assessments, in the form of full-scale LCAs or screening LCAs.
Environmental product declarations enjoy high priority at Siemens.
To ensure that our environmental product declarations offer a consistent level throughout the Company, we bring together the experience of the individual Business Units in the form of a dedicated competence center. This panel of experts meets regularly to deal with common issues relating to lifecycle assessment and communication of the results in the form of environmental product declarations.
The aim is to benefit from this expertise throughout the Company and jointly develop solutions that apply throughout the Group in order to promote greater transparency and commonality for this complex issue. The competence center defines the requirements for EPDs in our internal, company-wide environmental standard. Through this mechanism, the standard is subjected to regular reviews and adapted to changing national and international conditions.
