The reduction is largely due to the planned spin-off of Osram. Another factor that contributed to the reduction is the Siemens environmental program entitled Serve the Environment, which we use to identify goals and implement measures for improving energy efficiency, among other things. For example, in fiscal 2012 Siemens Real Estate (SRE) realized savings potential at selected locations of more than €4.5 million in reduced energy costs and of around 17,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
In addition to the energy consumption at the locations as reported above, the energy consumption of the Company's business vehicles is recorded centrally. Staff vehicles, service vehicles, and the Company's own trucks are grouped together. In fiscal 2012 the Company fleet consumed fuel whose energy content amounted to around 5 million gigajoules. Fuel energy use is distributed in almost equal parts between diesel fuel and gasoline; a remainder of approximately 1% is accounted for by liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas.
We wish to continuously increase our energy efficiency within the framework of the Serve the Environment program. To this end, we are deploying the Siemens Energy Efficiency Program (EEP) and are implementing energy management systems at energy-intensive locations. In fiscal 2012 we were able to boost our energy efficiency by 8% compared to base year 2010. We have therefore achieved our set target of a continuous increase in efficiency.
Our next objective is to continue our energy-saving projects in the future. In addition, we will roll out our energy management systems at selected environmentally relevant locations.
