As a good corporate citizen, our aim is to permanently improve living conditions for people all over the world. For this, we base our efforts on the principles of sustainability and enabling people to help themselves. Our activities focus on projects that reinforce the social structure and where we can add value through our experience and technologies – especially in regions where we do business. Although emerging and developing countries in particular need help from strong partners, sometimes it’s also important to address deficits in infrastructure or welfare even in industrialized countries.
When selecting projects, we therefore watch out for sustainability criteria such as reliability and long-term impact. In other words, the projects we support are expected to achieve a lasting, planned improvement in living conditions. Our selected projects and partners must benefit children, teenagers, or socially disadvantaged persons, and they should be consistent with our core competences in energy, industry, healthcare and infrastructure.
A good example of this approach is the Siemens mobile clinics in India.
Siemens has equipped clinics on wheels to improve the primary healthcare of the rural population in India.
Natural disasters are on the rise. Hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods often affect regions where Siemens has a local presence as well. We therefore consider it our duty to provide fast assistance to the victims, without red tape.
After major disasters, Siemens experts on-site evaluate the best way to provide help. We choose appropriate support, depending on the scope and type of disaster:
Decisions on whether to make a worldwide appeal for donations are made by a Siemens Corporate Committee. Other decisions are made in close coordination with the Siemens company in the country affected.
Siemens disaster aid activities fall into three categories:
We support immediate aid and reconstruction – not just with funding, but also with know-how and donated products. Examples include mobile x-ray units and water filters, which our employees can also install on-site.
