Environmental protection has been fundamental to Siemens for many years and is steered through an Environmental Management System. Our corporate program for environmental protection focuses on climate change and resources where we have set ourselves the goal of continuously improving our environmental performance.
Our customers all over the world benefit from a broad range of forward-looking technologies in our unique Environmental Portfolio. It includes outstanding products and solutions that make a direct, demonstrable contribution towards protecting the environment and the climate, including offshore wind farms and energy-efficient high-speed trains.
We also expect our suppliers to treat the environment properly. That’s one reason why every supplier must agree to comply with the Code of Conduct for Siemens Suppliers. We conduct sustainability audits to monitor performance and draw our suppliers’ attention to ecological aspects and environmentally appropriate conduct.
Sustainability and environmental protection among our suppliers
Since we view protection of the environment as a holistic task, our business activities also set a high priority on dealing responsibly with natural resources and treating the environment with respect beyond our business activities – helping counteract climate change and its effects. That's why we also include environmental protection in our educational and training activities.
One example is our I-Green education campaign in Chinese schools.
Through the I-Green Education Program Siemens aims at making the idea of environmental protection accessible to children in China.
The Green City Index examines the environmental friendliness of numerous large cities in various regions of the world. Carried out jointly by Siemens and the Economist Intelligence Unit, the research projects analyze and compare the cities’ environmental performance. Our aim is to heighten awareness of the challenges faced by cities in their efforts to promote sustainability and to highlight exemplary best practices. To date, there are Green City Indexes for cities in Africa, Asia, Germany, Europe, Latin America and the United States/Canada. More will soon be conducted in Australia/New Zealand.
