Today, Siemens has officially inaugurated the new rotor blade factory for offshore wind turbines in Hull, UK, in an event attended by the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Greg Clark and representatives of the local community. The site at Alexandra Docks has been transformed in under two years from a derelict industrial wasteland to a busy high-tech manufacturing hub.

Today Siemens celebrated the topping out ceremony for its new wind turbine manufacturing facility in Cuxhaven, Germany, attended by Parliamentary State Secretary Enak Ferlemann, Lower Saxony's State Secretary of Economic Affairs Daniela Behrens, and the Mayor of Cuxhaven, Dr. Ulrich Getsch. The structural steel uprights now stand for the production building, which will offer 56,000 square meters of floor space. This new facility in northern Germany is one of Siemens' most important investment projects in recent years, with some EUR 200 million invested in what is the company's first offshore wind turbine production plant in Germany.

Direct-drive wind turbines from Siemens are gaining ground on the German market: Siemens has now received five orders for 23 of these state-of-the-art wind turbines. Two of the wind farms are situated in Germany's northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein, while the other three are to be erected in Lower Saxony. Installation of all five projects, comprising anywhere from one to eight of these gearless units each, is to be completed by the spring of 2017.

Keeping up with the latest standards can be vital to ensuring safety when work is being performed on wind turbines. OffTECBase, a safety and technology training course provider in Enge-Sande, Schleswig-Holstein, has worked closely with Siemens' Wind Power and Renewables Division since 2010. Now the two companies want to take their collaboration to a new level. To be able to offer practical training courses, OffTEC ordered two of the latest Siemens SWT-3.6-130 direct-drive wind turbine systems, to be installed in the wind farm close to the training site. The principle is to work together to develop the content of future training courses and to train technicians using real wind technology.

Siemens has been awarded a contract for the turbine supply of the Zadar VI Extension onshore wind project in Croatia. The project scope includes delivery and installation of 13 wind turbines of the type SWT-3.4-108 with a rating of 3.4 megawatts (MW) each and a 108-meter rotor. The turbines will be installed on steel towers with hub heights of 79.5 meters. Deliveries are planned for the first half of 2017. After commissioning in summer 2017, the wind farm will have total installed capacity of 44.2 MW. The deal includes a long-term service agreement for 14 years.

German wind power plant project developer Ventotec GmbH is looking to work closely with Siemens. At WindEnergy Hamburg 2016, the firm, headquartered at Leer in East Friesland, signed a framework agreement for the supply of at least 200 Siemens direct-drive wind turbines.

The new Siemens SWT-3.15-142 wind turbine for low wind conditions features two premieres at the same time: For the first time, all advantages of the Siemens direct drive technology are available in a dedicated IEC Class IIIA wind turbine.
Meeting the growing demand of wind turbines suited for moderate wind speeds, Siemens presents its new wind turbine model SWT-3.6-130 for IEC class II sites. Especially designed for medium wind sites and based on proven Direct Drive technology, the latest addition to the portfolio delivers 3.6 megawatts (MW) of electric power.
Siemens has launched an extended portfolio of its successful Onshore direct drive wind turbines. At the WindEnergy Hamburg trade show, the company's Onshore CEO Thomas Richterich launched three new turbine models for optimum performance at low wind, medium wind, and noise sensitive sites.
High performance at low to medium wind speeds – that's what the new Siemens low noise SWT-3.3-130LN wind turbine offers customers. The new model operates at a reduced rotor speed compared to the SWT-3.3-130, and includes aerodynamic add-ons to its rotor blades.
