Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Siemens today submitted an offer letter specifying further the proposed transaction to Alstom. With the specified offer MHI and Siemens reaffirm their commitment to strengthen Alstom as an independent Global Player in Energy and Transport. After extensive discussions with all stakeholders over the past days MHI and Siemens reviewed their proposal with regards to reducing complexity, strengthening execution and narrowing risk exposure.

Siemens has noted the announcement of the French government to stronger respect national interests itself, regarding the reorganization of Alstom. "We respect and understand the political interest of the government in the field of energy technology. Together with our partner MHI, we had verifiably the better offer with respect to industrial and strategic sustainability as well as regarding financial and social aspects. But the safeguarding of national interests is a matter of the State," said Joe Kaeser, President and CEO of Siemens, and added: "Dealing with Alstom, we have proven our competence, entrepreneurship, strategic finesse and last but not least discipline."

As part of the planned acquisition of the gas business of Alstom, Siemens AG has announced its intention to provide training for an additional 1,000 French young people over the next few years. The additional training positions will include both technical and administrative professions. Siemens will invest about €32,000 annually for each trainee. Siemens President and CEO Joe Kaeser made this commitment at a meeting with French President François Hollande on Tuesday.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd (MHI) and Siemens AG today announced that they have joined forces and provided a proposal for the French multinational conglomerate, Alstom. Pursuant to this, MHI and Siemens propose several transactions in order to preserve Alstom's current perimeter in almost all its activities, enhance its industrial sustainability, strengthen its position as a diversified global player in energy and transport, and strengthen its financial structure, while remaining a major French listed group. The proposal is also very beneficial for Alstom employees. Furthemore it will foster job creation in France.

Jürgen Maier has been appointed CEO of Siemens' Regional Company in the United Kingdom (UK), effective July 1, 2014. Currently member of the Siemens UK Executive Management Board and Managing Director of Siemens Industry in the UK, he will succeed Roland Aurich.

Worldwide, major cities stand to gain around $800 billion per year of economic opportunity from 2030 by upgrading their public transportation networks. This is according to a study "The Mobility Opportunity" conducted by London-based consulting firm, Credo, and presented today in Singapore. Commissioned by Siemens, the study looks at transportation networks in 35 major cities around the globe and assesses how prepared cities are to meet future challenges, including population growth and higher competition.

Siemens is strengthening its collaborative efforts with its most innovative suppliers. The "Supplier Innovation Day" on May 26, 2014 in Fürth will see some 200 international researchers, developers and procurement experts from Siemens get together with specially selected suppliers to exchange views and ideas. From a total of 120 preliminary suggestions submitted, 21 suppliers were selected to appear at the event, where they will now present their latest developments.
