Industry Sector / Drive Technologies Division
Hanover, 2013-Apr-04
Inspiring young people with technology and making them aware about interesting career possibilities available to them are the goals of the TectoYou youth trade fair, which is again expecting around 10,000 young visitors in 2013. Siemens is once again taking part in this year's initiative and will provide around 1,000 school children with the means to travel to the Hannover Messe. TectoYou is a national youth initiative organized by Hannover Messe and the "Germany – Land of Ideas" campaign in collaboration with industry, science and the German Federal Government.
School pupils will be able to find information about starting a career at Siemens in the TectoYou Hall 11 of the exhibition center. Here numerous available training possibilities such as dual study programs or vocational training courses at the Siemens Technology Academy will be presented. At this year’s Siemens’ booth these young minds will be able to experience technology first-hand: by demonstrating their dexterity while soldering LED hearts. Visitors can climb on board a simulated ICE 3 driver's cab to virtually operate one of the 11,000 HP trains at 300 km/h using a joystick. The seat that TectoYou visitors will use is not a model either – this is where bona fide Deutsche Bahn train drivers usually are enthroned. For the first time pupils have the opportunity to ask Siemens CEOs interesting questions about their everyday work, their tasks and challenges as part of a personal round of talks entitled "CEOtoYou – pupils ask the boss".
Guided tours of the Siemens booth in Hall 9 will show pupils technological highlights in the fields of automation, materials, power and drive technology. Concrete automation solutions such as the power train for a vertical mill used to grind rock fragments to fine cement powder, will also be on display.
Gunter Erb, Head of Human Resources at Siemens Industry Sector states ‘‘with around 7,000 apprentices and students pursuing dual study programs at 41 locations nationwide, Siemens is one of the largest private training providers in Germany. Word of the high quality of a Siemens apprenticeship has spread beyond the boundaries of our company. For many years now, numerous small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as some larger companies, have been training young people under cooperation agreements with Siemens too. These schemes currently include around 2,700 young people. In 2012, almost 10 percent of our apprentices and dual students graduated with distinction."
