Siemens has been awarded an order for the turnkey supply of the Panda Temple Power Project in Temple, Texas. The company will supply the combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) in consortium with its partner, Bechtel. The purchaser for this advanced power plant is Panda Temple Power LLC headquartered in Dallas, Texas. The multi-shaft combined-cycle plant will be a Siemens Flex-PlantTM 30, with a gross installed electrical capacity of 758 megawatts (MW). Flex-PlantTM 30 combined-cycle power plants offer high efficiency and operational flexibility, providing the right solution for any duty service. Innovative design features are incorporated to enable fast start, and fast ramping up and down across a large operating window from low plant turn-down to high plant output. This plant will be among the cleanest fossil-fueled plants in the U.S.A. with carbon monoxide (CO) emissions less than 10 parts-per-million (ppm), and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions less than 2.0 ppm. Once completed, the generating station will be able to supply the power needs of approximately 750,000 homes in the Central and North Texas regions. The order volume including a long-term service agreement is approximately USD300 million.
The natural-gas-fired Panda Temple CCPP will be located at the Synergy Industrial Park in Temple, Texas. Siemens will deliver the power island equipment, including two SGT6-5000F gas turbines, one SST6-5000 steam turbine, two SGen6-1000A generators, one SGen6-2000H generator, the SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control system as well as two Benson heavy duct-fired heat recovery steam generators manufactured by NEM. A long-term service agreement has also been signed for the main generation components. Bechtel will be responsible for the engineering and procurement for the balance of the plant, and the installation, construction and commissioning of the facility.
The gas turbines for this project are equipped with a Shaping PowerTM feature which enables higher power output on higher temperature days. "Siemens' combined-cycle Flex-Plant 30 is an environmentally friendly solution with additional benefit from a fast start gas turbine that reduces overall plant startup emissions," said Roland Fischer, CEO of the Fossil Power Generation Division at Siemens Energy. "Power generation can commence within ten minutes of startup, and full base-load power production in less than one hour. This cutting-edge technology will provide clean power in the Texas market, which is predicted to be short of capacity when the plant comes on line in 2014. It also will reduce emissions, allow rapid response to changing market conditions, and enable added investment in intermittent renewable and zero-carbon resources", Fischer added.
The gas turbines, steam turbine and generators will be manufactured in the Siemens factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is the main production facility for Siemens 60 Hz power generation equipment.
High-efficiency Flex-Plant combined-cycle power plants (CCPP) are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal year 2011, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about €30 billion, making Siemens one of the world's largest suppliers of eco-friendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 320 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for power generation in thermal power plants and using renewables, power transmission in grids and for the extraction, processing and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2011 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of EUR24.9 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR31.8 billion and posted a profit of EUR3.9 billion. On October 1, 2011, the Energy Sector had a work force of more than 82,000. Further information is available at: http://www.siemens.com/energy
