Siemens Mobility concluded a contract with Beijing Post to provide Letter Sorting Equipments for its new mail center: Beijing Complex Mail Center (BCMC). The amount of the order reaches approximately € 5.6 million. The letter sorting machines will be put into trial operation by the end of 2010. By then, the Siemens solutions will support BCMC in its tasks to handle letters more efficiently.
Beijing Post provides primarily domestic and international postal services via about 800 different post offices. With the development of the postal market, Beijing Post is facing an increasing challenge for a more efficient postal system. To meet the challenge and improve the service of Beijing Post, Beijing Complex Mail Center is to be set up by Beijing Post after intensive and long-lasting planning. BCMC Phase I is a two-floor building with a floor space of over 135,000 sqm. By the end of 2010, BCMC is expected to commence commercial service and will become the biggest one among total 7 first-class mail centers in China.
By signing the contract, Siemens will supply 3 two-level letter sorting machines with integrated automatic reading and video coding function to Beijing Post. Siemens’ two-level letter sorting machine represents the leading technology of sorting equipment. Compared with other types of letter sorting machine, it saves space and operation cost for Beijing Post while providing more flexible configuration and optimized process. The equipment enhances efficiency and productivity by handling up to 46,000 letters per hour per letter sorting machine. High throughput and low jam rate of Siemens letter sorting machine can ensure Beijing Post to meet the big letter handling volume in Beijing which reaches about 3 million pieces every day. With the two-level letter sorting machines installed, BCMC as the centralized sorting center can easily deal with all the inbound and outbound letter sorting in Beijing. This great change will optimze the internal process for Beijing Post, and finally provide higher efficiency and better service to the public.
