Neufun waterpark in Neufahrn near Munich, Germany, has been using the ECON Pool energy saving concept developed by Siemens Water Technologies for five years. This is based on the minimum possible amounts of energy and disinfectant to treat the swimming pool water so that it meets the quality requirements defined in the German standard DIN 19463. Quality-sensitive regulation of the circulation pumps for three swimming pools has alone reduced average power consumption by 45 percent, amounting to 130,000 kilowatt hours a year.

Neufun waterpark offers visitors a 25-meter sports pool, a learning pool with slide and a warm pool. The facility also has an outdoor adventure pool and a sauna area. It attracts some 125,000 bathers and 33,000 sauna-goers every year. In all, four water circuits continuously supply the pools with clean water meeting the hygiene standards of DIN 19463.
Neufun has used ECON Pool to optimize the circulation rate in the sports pool since March 2005. One year later, the Siemens energy saving concept was extended to include the learning and warm pools. The Depolox Pool measurement and control system regulates the circulation pumps in response to the water quality. It measures the water quality parameters pH value, free chlorine, total chlorine, compound chlorine and redox potential. If all the parameter values lie within the limits specified by DIN 19463, the water circulation rate can be reduced. Depolox Pool also optimizes additional treatment stages in the water cycle, such as the dosages of disinfectant and flocculant, and correction of the pH value.
