Researchers from Siemens Corporate Technology in Russia, in close partnership with the St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, have developed an early warning system for dikes. The Urban Flood System has been under development since 2009 and is based on dikes that are studded with sensors inside and outside. The system continuously measures the parameters such as water and air pressure, expansion, or the humidity and temperature differences inside and outside the dike. In this way, the dike can be centrally monitored and it is possible to respond quickly if a dam threatens to break.
