In the search for the right material for transformers, both the alloy and its microstructure play a crucial role. Together with the State Polytechnic University in St. Petersburg and the steel producer Novolipetsk Steel, researchers from Siemens are investigating how heating and cooling rates affect the microstructure of the alloys. Since 2010, Siemens has been analyzing the characteristics of special alloys with partners in Russia.
