Since 2011, Siemens has been conducting research in conjunction with Moscow State University on generators for heat recovery with the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology. Unlike the classic steam cycle, ORC does not involve circulation of water, but instead an organic medium which provides for optimum efficiency especially at low waste heat temperatures and low output, and which allows for a compact design.
